Have you heard about FAT32 and NTFS. They are the file system or formats for your hard drive. FAT refers to file allocation table and NTFS refers to New technology file system. NTFS is latest and standard file system than FAT32.
FAT32 is slower and doesn’t have much feature and it doesn’t support large files. Six month earlier, my computer was in FAT32 format and I have a large files and needs to open it. It was about 4GB, but it didn’t open and windows said that “you don’t have enough hard drive space”. Then, I realize that this happen because of the FAT32 file system and I search tricks or tips of changing or converting FAT32 into NTFS without any need of software and formatting and finally found the solution or tips and I have also listed it below, see step-by-step instructions and follow it respectively.
Convert FAT32 to NTFS without losing data.
1) Go to start button and click run and type ‘CMD’ without any quotes and press OK.
2) DOS screen will appear and after that go to C: by typing C then hit enter.
3) See the name of letter in my computer, which you want to convert.
4) Back in CMD and type “CONVERT X: /FS: NTFS” without any quotes.
Note: Here, X: refers to the letter your system drive or external drive name.
5) On the question Y/N press Y and press OK.
6) And Now, wait for few minutes because cmd will check the file system and the rest. After your cmd finishes, your work is done and your file system is converted to NTFS and you can close cmd by typing exit on the screen.
Note: To see your file is in which format, go to my computer and right click on that drive and properties.
7) If there is error or cmd says X: was not converted to NTFS etc, follow the next steps.
Follow same process as step one and in DOS mode type “Chkdsk X: /F” after that it will tells ‘convert lost chains top files Y/N’ then press Y to continue.
9) After finishing, you will find your files system is in NTFS.
